11:02 pm - My poor cutthroat
Hi There,

I've been hitting up tons of pet shops and scouring the web for advice on:

My male cutthroat finch had air sac mites probably for a year or so. Being ignorant as to exactly what was wrong I left a nest in for the pair (the female has died). The finch has now been treated for the air sac mites and is started to call agian which I haven't heard for ages.

BUT he has thew following problems.

-He can't get off the ground (well not too much) He has lost some toenails/claws probably due to an infection from staying in the nest (which has been removed) Will These Grow Back?

-His wings don't seem to be as full featherwise as any of the other finches (also treated for air sac mites just in case, no symptoms) Will These Feathers Grow Back?

-Thirdly I assume his lungs will always be bad now due to scarring.

It is good to see him calling agian and a lot more active. His tail bobbing is much less pronounced. I put a heat lamp near him at night as he spends his day chasing any ray of sun around the bottom of the cage for a 'nap'. He still eats lots.

Thanks -David Maifredi-

I love all my birds but this one is rather a special character to me.

11:18 pm - Baby Gouldian
My baby gouldian finally came out of the nest yesterday, so I got some photos yesterday. But from this morning to this evening the hand rearing has been amazing...
Hand Rearing Day 1 - Photo 1
Obviously he likes sitting on my shoulder... well... back of my neck, but same right? haha... I also got a video of him tonight before I put him to "bed" back in the nest with mum...

Please ignore my fingers, I have freakishly small hands lol... :-P

Before we welcome our President-to-be-Obama, it is time to pay tribute to President G.W. Bush as we deem fitting. I do that with Bronze-winged Mannikins!
